1. What is a successful liposuction surgery?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that sculpts and reshapes deformed areas of the body caused by accumulation of fat tissues. A successful liposuction is one in which the patient as well as the surgeon are happy and satisfied with the improved outcome.
2. What Alternatives Are There to Liposuction?
Obviously losing weight sometimes helps but not always. Some devices are currently under investigation and will externally "melt" areas of fat on specific patients with small areas of problems.
3. What type of liposuction is the best?
The best type of liposuction is the one that is going to give a good result consistently time after time. There are many factors involved in obtaining a good result. First of all and a critical element is the adequate selection of the patients that are good candidates for liposuction. A certified surgeon with good experience and knowledge and who can show excellent before and after pictures of his patients is a must. Every surgeon will have a preference for a certain type of technique that in his hands gives him the best achievable results.
4. How is Tumescent Liposuction performed?
The Tumescent liposuction involves infiltrating the tissues that will undergo the procedure with a large volume saline solution that is mixed with Lidocaine and Epinephrine for approximately 15 to 30 minutes before the liposuction is performed. This helps to reduce the amount of blood loss in the procedure and better sculpting of the areas.
5. How long does Tumescent Liposuction take?
It will all depend on the amount of areas to undergo liposuction and the expected volumes of fat tissue to be removed. It usually ranges from 1 to 3hrs.
6. What anesthesia is used with Tumescent Liposuction?
It varies from patient to patient. Sometimes the only anesthesia is the one provided by the lidocaine in the infiltrating solution. This works well on patients with small or limited amounts of fat to be removed. Most times IV sedation or "twilight" anesthesia is given to keep the patient comfortable when larger areas of sculpting are required.
7. Who can perform Tumescent Liposuction?
Unfortunately any physician can perform liposuction. That does not mean that they should. As simple as the concept might appear, liposuction is a delicate cosmetic operation that requires a fair amount of skill, experience and knowledge from the part of the surgeon. You need to be extra careful in selecting your surgeon in order to have a satisfying result and not to regret a permanent deformity for the rest of your life.
