1. Is liposuction a reasonable treatment for obesity?
No. Liposuction is ideally used to remove localized areas of fat to achieve improved body proportions and contour.
2. What is a successful liposuction surgery?
Where unwanted fat has been removed giving the patient a better figure, and the patient was happy and rejuvenated.
3. Does liposuction cause dimpling or indentations in the skin?
These are undesirable outcomes that can hopefully be avoided (or at least minimized) with careful technique and careful patient selection. If this does occur, revisional corrective procedures can be considered
4. What Alternatives Are There to Liposuction?
Liposuction is best suited for patients who are not excessively over weight, have good skin quality, and are in overall good health. People who are obese or people with excess hanging skin are not appropriate candidates for liposuction. Alternatives to liposuction would include weight loss or surgical removal of extra skin and fat in these situations.
5. What type of liposuction is the best?
There are a variety of techniques and tools out there to perform liposuction. Standard, power assisted, ultrasonic, and even laser devices are available. In qualified hands, any of the accepted techniques are safe and effective.
6. How much liposuction is excessive (Staged liposuction, Mega liposuction)?
This is dependent on many factors including the patient, setting (in patient or out patient,), combined procedures, and many others. The surgeon will need to gauge carefully the blood loss and post operative fluid needs of the patient to determine the maximum safe amount of fat to be removed.
7. How is Tumescent Liposuction performed?
Tumescent liposuction implies that a solution is injected into the fat prior to suctioning. This is done to diminish bleeding and make removing the fat easier and improves the safety of the procedure. This improves contouring and therefore the final results. It is generally done with all types of liposuction techniques.
