An Interview With Dr. Marcel F. Daniels, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S. , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Compton

1. What is a successful liposuction surgery?

A successful liposuction surgery is one that removes unwanted fat without skin irregularities or sag.

2. What Alternatives Are There to Liposuction?

The only alternatives to liposuction, other than diet and exercise, are Radio frequency and Ultrasound devices that achieve, at best, modest improvements. Some practitioners use mesotherapy injections as an alternative but the results are unpredictable and vary widely.

3. What type of liposuction is the best?

The type of liposuction (Power-assisted, Ultrasound-assisted, Laser-assisted, etc.) is not as important as the skill of the physician performing the procedure. Good results can be obtained with all of them, no one type has been shown to be better.

4. How is Tumescent Liposuction performed?

Prior to its removal, the fat is infiltrated with a solution containing adrenaline (to decrease blood loss) and local anesthetic (to decrease discomfort).

5. How long does Tumescent Liposuction take?

It depends upon the number and size of the areas treated and can range from under an hour to several hours.

6. What anesthesia is used with Tumescent Liposuction?

Some physicians use only the anesthesia provided by the tumescent solution, while others opt for the addition of sedation. My personal preference is to perform the procedure under general anesthesia, which allows me the most control and the ability to be thorough, and have the tumescent solution decrease post-operative discomfort.

7. Who can perform Tumescent Liposuction?

Technically any physician may perform liposuction. The key for prospective patients is to specifically inquire about what level of background and training the physician has. Getting more than one opinion is also a good idea!
