An Interview With Dr. Shah, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Dayton

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a way to get rid of fat and shape an area of your body that you can't seem to get rid of on your own. Dr. K. Roxanne Grawe at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery will perform a private consultation with you to evaluate how liposuction can help you!

Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

Anyone who has excess fat in specific areas of their body is a good candidate for liposuction. Dr. K. Roxanne Grawe believes that liposuction is NOT a weight loss tool, it is a procedure which shapes and tones the body to create the look you have been dreaming about. Who is not a good candidate for liposuction?

Individuals who have excess skin are not good candidates for liposuction - these patients usually need a tummy tuck or other procedure to remove the excess skin. Dr. Grawe will tell you that removing fat in these areas will only make the skin more saggy if there is too much skin to start with.

What are the risks associated with liposuction surgery?

Like any surgery there is a risk of bleeding and infection which, if they were bad enough would require a trip back to the Operating Room to fix. The other main risk of liposuction is that you may have an unevenness in the area - usually this resolves over time with massage but occasionally, it requires another operation to repair. Dr. Grawe at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery can go over these risks in detail with you at a private consultation. You can learn more on the website at www.instituteplasticsurgery.com

How long is the recovery period?

After liposuction, you will need to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. You will leak some fluid for about 3-5 days. You will feel sore for about 1-2 weeks but no real pain. You will be able to work out again whenever you feel up to it and go back to work when you are no longer taking pain medicine. Dr. Grawe at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery will work with you to make sure you have a great recovery.
