1. Is liposuction a reasonable treatment for obesity?
No, liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. Patients should be within 20% of their ideal body weight to be ideal candidates. An appropriate diet and exercise program is essential to achieve desired results with liposuction or any body contouring procedure.
2. What is a successful liposuction surgery?
Right now, difficult to define. I try to give patients an idea about what shape change they can expect, not necessarily how many pounds they will lose.
3. Does liposuction cause dimpling or indentations in the skin?
It can in some circumstances. If patients have cellulite and dimpling before surgery there is a chance these could become worse after surgery. Particularly if their skin quality is not ideal or they have stretch marks.
4. What Alternatives Are There to Liposuction?
Eating right and regular exercise are a great place to start. There are several non-surgical alternatives that will be coming out over the next couple of years. Remember, these devices won=E2=80=99t be replacing liposuction but providing a non-surgical alternative that often yields results but not SURGICAL results.
5. What type of liposuction is the best?
There are many different =E2=80=9Ctools=E2=80=9D for liposuction. Traditional suction, ultrasound, laser etc. It is much more important who is doing your surgery rather than the specific device they are using. These technologies have a great deal of hype surrounding them that often is not proven objectively and/or scientifically.
6. How much liposuction is excessive (Staged liposuction, Megaliposuction)?
Safety of a procedure is really patient specific. Larger volume cases are not without risk and should be done in an appropriately monitored environment during and after surgery. My preference is keep patients overnight in a monitored environment when I am removing larger volumes and treating multiple areas.
7. How is Tumescent Liposuction performed?
A wetting solution that contains medications to help with anesthesia and to cut down blood loss are administered to the areas of treatment. Fluid helps magnify the treatment area to allow for easier treatment. After waiting a period of time for the medications to take effect, the treatment is performed.
