1. How soon will I see liposuction results?
The swelling will take at least 3 months to completely resolve.
2. What anesthesia is used with Tumescent Liposuction?
If patient has small, localized areas of fat, tumescent liposuction can be done with oral medication. For larger areas, secondary liposuction, or for patients with low pain threshold, general anesthesia is recommended.
3. Who can perform Tumescent Liposuction?
Any board certified plastic surgeon is trained in performing tumescent liposuction.
4. How safe is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a very safe procedure, if the right candidate is chosen for the surgery.
5. What areas are most common body regions treated with Tumescent Liposuction?
In men, the most common areas are the breasts, abdomen and love handles. In women, the most common areas are the inner and outer thighs and the hips.
6. Can I have other operations with Tumescent Liposuction?
The recommendation of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons is to limit elective out-patient anesthesia time to 6 hours or less. Therefore other procedures can be combined with liposuction as long as the six hour limit is kept in mind.
7. How does the tumescent technique reduce risk of infection?
There is some data which shows Lidocaine (the numbing medication used) may have some anti-bacterial properties. However, the data is mixed. Fortunately, the risk of infection is extremely low.
