1. How soon will I see liposuction results?
Liposuction results are seen almost immediately. There is post-operative swelling and some black and blue but for the most part, patients see the dramatic results very early on.
2. What anesthesia is used with Tumescent Liposuction?
Most patients request multiple areas of liposuction. As such, it is often necessary to perform liposuction surgery under general anesthesia.
3. Who can perform Tumescent Liposuction?
Although any M.D. Can perform liposuction, I recommend that only board certified Plastic Surgeons should perform this surgery. Proper training of these techniques are part of the usual and customary curriculum of training. Board Examinations consisting of written and oral tests are taken by Plastic Surgeons and continuing medical education helps assure clinical safety and competency. If not performed safely and carefully, disastrous results can occur.
4. How safe is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a safe procedure. There are always risks and benefits of any surgeries performed. That is why clinical competency is very important. Interviewing the surgeon, checking his/her credentials, ascertaining their board certification and reviewing before and after photographs help in determining whether the Plastic Surgeon should be your Plastic Surgeon.
5. What areas are most common body regions treated with Tumescent Liposuction?
Common body regions that are liposuctioned include the neck, proximal arms, male chest, abdomen, lateral flanks, lateral and medial thighs, medial knees. Often the back of the lower legs are liposuctioned as well.
6. Can I have other operations with Tumescent Liposuction?
I will perform liposuction with other surgeries. On patients who request procedures with large volume liposuctions, I prefer to perform the liposuction procedure independently and separately from the other operation.
7. How does the Tumescent technique reduce risk of infection?
I don’t think that Tumescent liposuction reduces infection rate. I give intra-operative antibiotics and post-operative antibiotics to help reduce the opportunity for infection. My infection rate for liposuction is very low.
