An Interview With Dr. Charles Perry MD , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Roseville

1. What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the subcutaneous fat.The fat to be reduced is pretreated with numbing medicine and then through small little hidden incisions tubes are placed and the little fat cells are pulled out.

2. What are the risks associated with liposuction surgery?

Liposuction has the same risks of any surgical procedure (Bleeding, infection, pain, injury to surrounding tissue) as well as irregular contour and need for additional procedures such as more liposuction or tummy tuck to enhance or optimize the result.

3. What technique will the surgeon use to perform the liposuction?

Most surgeons use a tumescent technique or similar. This basically means that a balanced salt solution is infused into the fatty area. This solution contains some numbing medicine and some epinephrine to minimize bruising. Many surgeons are using VASER to emulsify the fat and heat the tissues and some are using laser to achieve this effect. This is then followed by aspiration of fat through tiny little cannulas. A compression garment is then used to help facilitate the contour.

4. How much does liposuction surgery cost?

This varies according to the areas and the amount to be taken. In general one area usually runs 1500 to 3000 dollars. Anesthesia, operating room fees and supplies may be added to this cost.

5. Can exercise get rid of specific areas of fat without liposuction?

Exercise and dieting will get rid of fat non-selectively. There is no way to target certain areas for fat reduction selectively without liposuction.

6. Is liposuction a good way to lose weight?

Liposuction is not a good way to lose weight. At most we can only remove 10 pounds at a time. As a weight loss technique it is too expensive and limited. It is best thought of as a body contouring device.

7. Does liposuction take care of cellulite?

Cellulite often requires multiple therapies to improve it. Skin tightening, superficial fat reduction, and muscle toning as well as liposuction can help improve the appearance, however there are some areas that are vary resistant to removal.
